Dave - My wife Vicki and I saw your parents Sunday evening at the Pops by the Sea concert. It was good to see them again. They told us about your joining the Peace Corps and being in Mali. Needless to say, they are very proud of you -- and they should be. Congratulations on your service and your dedication.

In 1960, I was fortunate to be able to visit Mali myself. I'm sure you agree that the people and the country are extraordinary. At that time, I also was able to meet with then President Modibo Keita, who later commented on the positive contributions the Peace Corps volunteers had made to his country. He also later talked about how much he enjoyed playing volleyball with Peace Corps volunteers.

I don't know if you're playing much volleyball these days, but I do know that you're making an enormous difference. Congratulations again and best of luck.

I look forward to hearing more about your experiences. All the best, Ted Kennedy

Wow Dave
What a surprise to see Senator Kennedy's post! Dad and I saw Senator and Mrs. Kennedy at the Pops by the Sea in Hyannis last week and we updated them on your decision to join the Peace Corps. They remembered meeting you at Jay's graduation party. We gave them your blog address and they said they would definitely check it out. It is so nice to see that they visited and posted! The Senator and Mrs. Kennedy were very gracious and offered to have a photo taken with us for you! The Senator took my camera form me and handed it to a gentleman near by to snap a few photos.

We also had dinner with Ray Romano and his beautiful wife and family after the Pops. He was the guest conductor [absolutely hysterical]. The VanScivers invited us to a private gathering for dinner after the Pops and I actually spent a few minutes chatting with his daughter, his wife and then Ray himself. I let him know you were in Africa in the Peace Corps and asked if he would mind a quick photo shoot so I could send it to you. I let him know that Dad and I are #1 Fans and watch the re-runs all the time. He, in his dry sense of humor said "that show is on too much!" I told him we do not get enough of it and was sorry that the show ended!

Hope you received the photos!

Love
Mom

PS While you are away, who else would you like us to have our photo taken with? LOL

Your site is amazing!! Never heard of Fulfulde -- so it's nice to learn something new each day!!

Hope the food is agreeing with you now -- do they eat eggs (since they have chickens)? And what about the rest of the sheep -- besides the intestines?

Keep us posted ... We will keep reading!! And use bug spray!!

Wishing you a restful night - Jam wallen-en!
